Discover (and Celebrate) your Teams Motivation through your CSR Initiatives
Corporate social responsibility, workplace giving, employee engagement, productivity, positive environment, and impact all go hand in hand, and motivation is what ties them all together. Read on to see how, as a nonprofit organization, you can implement just a few small changes to positivity effect your team’s motivation.
1.) Incorporate more employee cooperation
It may be faster to have the same people (i.e., your development team) create, organize, and implement all aspects of your CSR and Workplace Giving program, but is it the best way to get others motivated? Likely, no.
Therefore, when you involve different team members into various aspects of your CSR Initiatives, more people then see the impact made, and that will fuel their passion. When more people are involved, more people are inspired and thus, motivated to spread the good work that your organization does.
2.) Employee Led CSR Initiatives
Diversity and Inclusion, Volunteer Programs, and Peer to Peer Fundraising all have something in common; they are “crowd-sourced” aspects stemming from within.
As a responsible organization, you understand the value of transparency. You strive to be at the forefront, continually leading the way to the building of an inclusive environment that works for everyone. Subsequently, why would your internal CSR Initiatives be any different? Employee led initiatives give a sense of pride, meaning, and you guessed it, motivation. As a result, you will see in impact not only on that event but on the day to day on the job effort- turning your employees into advocates for the work that you do.
3.) Acknowledge What’s in the Air
Listen to what your team members are saying. If there is consistent grumbling, try a different approach. The environment within your walls will translate, survey the group, hear their passions in regard to your CSR Initiatives, and run with it. According to CultureIQ, the most popular method to actively manage and drive employee engagement and motivation is to draft employee engagement surveys (55%). In case you are curious, the next two are:
- creating culture committees and events (29%)
- offering employee resource groups (20%)
4.) Realize your CSR Initiatives should involve MANY different aspects
CSR is not just about financial donations to charities or volunteer programs. A thriving social responsibility program needs to be about your employee base. If you invest in them through tuition reimbursement plans, training, or any cost associated with their skill development, your team members will feel that you care about their wellbeing and growth within your organization.
Talk about a significant motivating factor!
5.) Don’t be afraid to make some noise
When you succeed, share it! Employees will be proud of the great work your company has achieved through its all-encompassing CSR Initiatives. In short, employee pride turns into energy, excitement, enthusiasm, and motivation. Plus, when your community sees that employees are passionate enough about your work, that they want to advocate beyond their day to day work… now that is inspiration and passion!
